Our Tropical Getaway...to Seattle

This last weekend we set off for Seattle. It was a short trip but we sure packed it in and had a really good time doing so. First we stopped at Ikea to enjoy some meatballs and get some necessities that I had been craving. (Sorry no pictures of Ikea.) We got to the hotel late and that was a good thing because you don't anticipate all the jumping and running that occur when you get into a tiny room on the third floor...as if they had never experienced jumping on a bed before. We purchased Citi passes that give you access to several events. I don't recommend doing them in two days like we did, but it worked just right for us with our limited attention spans. And we felt like we experienced a lot!

Friday we went to the Pacific Science Center. We whizzed right through there with the attention span of the boys (including Brad) but really enjoyed the exhibits and especially the IMAX theatre movie about bugs. Here are a couple of pictures of the butterfly exhibit- totally cool! There are tons of butterflies and they can land on you.
Unfortunately, I decided to throw in a picture of me and my baby bump (below). Nothing to write home about. 2 more months of expansion to go.

Kaden was the only one brave enough to stand next to Dad to get a picture near the T Rex that made small, gentle movements. A life threatening experience.

We went to Pike's Market after the Science Center- it's not any cleaner than I remembered but quite interesting - but not really so fun for the kids. I felt like I spent most of my time rubbing "hand cleaner" on them to fight off all the germs everywhere. Then we went down to the Seattle Aquarium off the Pier. It was a pretty neat aquarium but not as good as the one we went to with Heath and Mary last Spring in Oregon. The kids liked it, but by then all the fish looked the same and Brad and I were just looking for a seat.

That night we went to a Sonics game. This was Brad's wish and sitting down for a while sounded just fine with me. We scalped some nosebleed tickets and stayed for the whole game in order to retrieve a free bobble head of a no-namer black basketball player with dread locks - a special treasure for my boys to keep forever.

Saturday morning we headed off to the Woodland Park Zoo. It was a chilly day. There were a few really great exhibits and some not-so-worth-it exhibits, but we loved it. Above, you can see Brandt giving us the Loser sign instead of a thumbs up, and an upclose exhibit of the Bears - very cool. There were some hillarious monkey exhibits too that the boys just loved. Just as we got to our last exhibits, it started to rain. So we headed out drenched, but just in time.

Kaden & Brandt..wait that's not Brandt...or is it?

Our last adventure took us back to the Pier and out on a tour of the harbor. It was quite informative and I spent most of the time convincing myself mentally that I would make it...a little bit of motion sickness for me. Brad really enjoyed it though and can quiz you on some unknown Seattle trivia..watch out Charee and Todd.
We had a great time in our last get-away before baby comes. My only complaints were about paying for parking, the expense of food at these venues, and the cleanliness of public restrooms - that I, of course, used a lot. The boys behaved quite well, much to my surprise and it made for a great memory!

It sounds like you guys had an awesome weekend. I can't believe that you had enough energy get around do all that stuff pregnant. We didn't do half of the stuff that you did when we lived there, now I wish we had. Good idea to get out before the baby comes, though...he/she will put a stop to going out for at least a little while.
